On books, Scholastic uses BR to indicate any titles that are less than 100L. A score of BR on the LitPro/Reading Pro/SRI test also indicates less than 100L, but the test can also generate student Lexile scores that are below 0 as a measure of their ability, whereas BR represents a score between -400L and +99L. Because that could be demotivating for students we display all scores below 100L as BR. This means that student could have tested at a -200L when they began and actually grown to a 15L over several months, but their score would still display as BR in the product.
Metametrics has made some changes independently concerning how they categorize BR scores to show progress within that range, and Scholastic is considering whether that approach is appropriate for our customers. We currently have a consultant who is working on this for international customers.
